Booking your first facial can feel a little like showing up to a dinner party where everyone else knows the host. You are not sure what to wear, what to say, or whether you were supposed to bring something. I hear this from new clients every week, and I want you to know that nervousness is completely normal. It also disappears about five minutes into the appointment.

This guide answers the questions first-time clients actually ask me, so you can walk into Soluna Vee Spa in Colorado Springs feeling prepared, relaxed, and excited for your skin.

What a Facial Actually Is

A facial is a professional skin treatment performed by a licensed esthetician. It cleanses, exfoliates, treats, and hydrates your skin, and it is customized to what your skin needs that day. It is not a one-size-fits-all routine, and it is not only for people with "problem" skin. Facials are for anyone who wants healthier, more comfortable skin and an hour or two of genuine rest.

Think of it as a check-in with your skin. You get a professional analysis, a treatment matched to that analysis, and a clear plan for home care afterward.

Which Facial Should a Beginner Book?

If you have never had a facial, you do not need to pick the biggest treatment on the menu. Here is how I guide new clients:

  • Essential Reset™: Express Facial (45 minutes, $75). A focused facial that cleanses, exfoliates, treats, and hydrates, with no extractions. This is the one I recommend most often for first-time clients. It gives you the full feel of a professional facial without a long commitment.

  • The Luna Facial: Hydrating Facial (75 minutes, $145). A restorative facial for dry, dehydrated, sensitive, or dull skin, built for Colorado's dry, high-altitude climate. A beautiful choice if your skin feels tight or reactive.

  • The Sol Facial: Anti-Aging Facial (90 minutes, $175). A results-focused facial for fine lines, breakouts, dark spots, or rough texture. Depending on your skin, it may include a peel, dermaplaning, enzyme exfoliation, extractions, or microcurrent.

  • The Soluna Ritual™: Luxury Facial (120 minutes, $225). The complete Soluna Vee Spa experience. Two unhurried hours of corrective skin care and deep relaxation. Many first-timers save this one for a birthday or a milestone, and many book it as their first facial because they want the full experience right away.

Not sure which one fits? A Personalized Skin Consultation ($50, 30 minutes) lets us sit down, look at your skin together, and build a plan. The consultation fee is applied toward a treatment booked the same day.

How to Prepare for Your First Facial

A little preparation helps your skin get the most from the appointment.

Three to five days before:

  • Pause strong exfoliants, retinol, and any at-home peels or scrubs. Fresh, calm skin responds best.

  • Skip waxing, threading, or shaving your face.

  • Avoid heavy sun exposure. Sunburned skin cannot be treated.

The day of:

  • Arrive with a clean face if you can, but do not stress if you are wearing makeup. Cleansing is the first step of every facial.

  • Drink water. Hydrated skin is happier skin.

  • Wear something comfortable with a neckline that moves easily, since your neck and shoulders may be included.

  • Leave the big earrings and necklaces at home.

What to bring:

  • A list of the products you use at home, or simply photos of the bottles. This helps me understand what your skin is used to.

  • Any questions you have been wanting to ask about your skin. Write them down so you do not forget once you are relaxed.

What Happens When You Arrive

Soluna Vee Spa is a private, one-client-at-a-time studio inside Luxe Cosmetic Studios on Woodmen Road. There is no waiting room full of strangers, no background noise from other rooms, and no rushing. When you arrive, it is just you and me.

We start with a short conversation. I will ask about your skin goals, your home routine, your health history, and anything that has been bothering you. Then I look at your skin under good light and tell you what I see. This is where many first-time clients learn things about their skin they never knew.

From there, I customize the treatment. If you booked the Essential Reset™, I choose the products and steps that fit your skin best within that focused format. If you booked a longer facial, we have more room to work.

Step by Step: What a First Facial Feels Like

Every facial is customized, but most follow a familiar rhythm.

  1. Cleansing. A gentle double cleanse removes makeup, sunscreen, and the day. Warm towels follow, and this is usually the moment the shoulders drop.

  2. Skin analysis. I take a close look and adjust the plan.

  3. Exfoliation. Depending on your skin, this may be a soft enzyme, a gentle acid, or a polishing treatment. It should feel refreshing, never painful.

  4. Steam and extractions (if included). The Essential Reset™ does not include extractions. In longer facials, extractions are done carefully and only where your skin needs them.

  5. Treatment. This may include serums, a mask, or an enhancement like LED Light Therapy.

  6. Massage and relaxation. Gentle facial, neck, and shoulder techniques help you fully let go.

  7. Hydration and protection. Moisturizer and sunscreen finish the treatment so your skin leaves protected.

  8. Home care plan. Before you go, I explain exactly what to do at home, what to pause, and when to come back.

Will It Hurt?

A facial should not hurt. You may feel mild tingling during exfoliation or a little pressure during extractions, but discomfort is never the goal. I check in with you throughout the treatment, and you are always welcome to speak up. My phone is off when you are on my table, and your comfort is the only thing on my mind.

What Your Skin Looks Like Afterward

Most clients leave with skin that looks fresh, hydrated, and glowing. Some people have light pinkness for an hour or two, especially after extractions or exfoliation. This fades quickly.

For the first 24 hours:

  • Skip makeup if you can, and let your skin enjoy the results.

  • Avoid heavy workouts, saunas, and hot tubs.

  • Do not pick at anything.

  • Use gentle products and plenty of sunscreen.

Your skin will look its best in the two to three days after a facial, which is why I suggest booking about a week before a special event.

How Often Should You Come Back?

For most people, a facial every four to six weeks matches your skin's natural renewal rhythm. Your first visit is where we set that schedule together. I wrote a full guide on this: How Often Should You Get a Facial? A Realistic Schedule for Colorado Springs Skin.

Facials and Colorado Springs Skin

Living at altitude in a dry climate changes how your skin behaves. Dehydration, dullness, and sun damage show up faster here. That is one reason even first-time clients often notice a bigger difference than they expected. Your facial is built for the climate you actually live in, not a generic routine.

Questions First-Time Clients Ask

Do I need to shave before a facial?

No. Facials do not require shaving, and it is best to avoid shaving or waxing your face for a few days before.

Can I get a facial if I have acne or sensitive skin?

Yes. Facials are customized, and gentle options exist for every skin type. Let me know your concerns when you book so I can plan the right approach.

Should I tell my esthetician about my medications or health history?

Yes, please. Some medications and conditions change how your skin responds to treatment. Everything you share stays private, and it helps me keep your skin safe.

Can I talk during my facial, or should I stay quiet?

Either one. Some clients love to chat, and some fall asleep. There is no wrong way to enjoy your facial.

Is tipping expected?

Tipping is appreciated but never required. Your return visit and your referrals mean the most.

What if I am running late?

Call or text as soon as you can. I will do my best to adjust, though some steps may be shortened to keep your appointment on time.

Choosing the Right Esthetician for Your First Facial

Your first facial sets the tone for how you feel about skin care for years. Look for a licensed esthetician who takes time to understand your skin, explains what she is doing, and sends you home with a clear plan.
